Day 1
London to Colombo
Depart London for Flight to Colombo
Day 2
 Upon your arrival in Colombo, be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel which is a 30 min drive from the airport . Overnight - Horakelle Estate
Day 3
Transfer to Sinharaja and take walk through the Sinharaja Rainforest, Sri Lanka’s last remaining rainforest and home to most of the island’s endemic birdlife. Sinharaja Forest Reserve – one of the least disturbed and biologically unique primary lowland rain forests in Sri Lanka, covering an extent of over 11000 hectares. Of international significance and declared a Man and Biosphere Reserve (MAB) in 1978 when UNESCO included it in its international network of Biosphere reserves. It was subsequently designated a National wilderness area in 1988 and received full status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1989. Situated in the lowland wet zone of the country with an average temperature of 23.6C and an annual rainfall of more than 2500mm the high level of endemism makes it an international rarity. More than 60% of the trees are endemic and it is home to over 50% of Sri Lanka's endemic species of mammals and butterflies, as well as many kinds of insects, reptiles and rare amphibians. Of Sri Lanka's endemic birds, all 22 rainforest species are seen here, including the elusive Red-faced Malkoha, Green-billed Coucal and Sri Lanka Blue Magpie. Overnight - Rain Forest Eco Lodge
Day 4
Take a full day walk in the Sinharaja rain forest. Experience wild life especially bird life that is abundant in the forest. Observations can be made on at least 100 such flocks including over 40 species of birds, of which 12 are endemic to Sri Lanka. Bird flocks show a distribution pattern that corresponds closely with the stratified vegetation structure, and are usually accompanied by animals such as the giant squirrel, the jungle squirrel and purple faced leaf Monkey. Day 5
Udawalawe National Park
Transfer to Udawalawe, the location famous for its elephants and other wild life. Make a visit to the Elephant transit home. The Elephant Transit Home is an admirable initiative which is sponsored by the Born Free Trust. Baby elephants that are injured or orphaned in the wild are brought to the Transit Home where they are cared for a rehabilitated in a natural setting. Once the elephants are old enough and strong enough they are radio collared and released in to the National Park in small groups. The first group to be released in to the park successfully reproduced in the wild in 2008! Enjoy an afternoon game drive at the Udawalawe National Park. Overnight - Kalus Hideaway
Day 6
Yala National Park
We take a morning safari at the Udawalawe national park. Then transfer to Yala to experience a safaris at the spectacular Yala National Park, renowned for its dazzling array of birds and wild animals, and its conservation of elephants and aquatic birds. Residents include: leopard, elephant, spotted deer, sambar, wild buffalo, sloth bear, jackal, mongoose, pangolin and crocodile. Birds, to name a few: lesser flamingos, paradise flycatchers, crested hawk eagles, black bitterns. Overnight - Cinnamon Wild
Day 7
Yala National Park
In the morning make your way to Bundala for a morning safari at the well renowned bird sanctuary of Bundala, a home and resting place to many feathered species in the region. Bundala National Park is an internationally important wintering ground for migratory water birds in Sri Lanka. Bundala harbors 197 species of Birds, the highlight being the Greater Flamingo, which migrate in large flocks. Bundala was designated a wildlife sanctuary in 1969 and redesignated to a national park on 4 January 1993. In 1991 Bundala became the first wetland to be declared as a Ramsar site in Sri Lanka. In 2005 the national park was designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, the fourth biosphere reserve in Sri Lanka. The national park is situated 245 kilometres (152 mi) southeast of Colombo. Day 8
Yala - Mirissa
Take a morning safari to the Yala National park. Thereafter transfer to Mirissa, the town located by the beach famous for its whale and dolphin filled waters. Arrive at your hotel and the spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring the surroundings. Overnight - Paradise Beach Club
Day 9
Early this morning, travel to Mirissa to enjoy an unforgettable morning spotting blue whales by boat. During the months of December to April is home to a large population of blue whales giving very reliable sightings of the largest animal to have ever lived. Sperm whales are also seen pretty frequently as well as huge pods of spinner dolphins. There is a voluntary code of conduct amongst our responsible operators to keep at least 100m from each whale. Leave between 0530 hrs and 0600hrs for the Mirissa harbour for a whale watching excursion in search of Blue’s and other cetaceans. Between the months of November and April you'll have an early start to take a whale watching excursion off the coast of Mirissa to track the incredible Blue Whale - the largest animal that has ever lived and now known to be found seasonally in Sri Lanka's rich marine habitat. Return to the hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight - Paradise Beach Club
Day 10
Take another whale watching excursion in the morning. Then transfer to a hotel close to the airport to spend the last night of the tour at leisure. Overnight - Tamarind Tree
Day 11
Colombo - London
Transfer to the airport for our flight back to the UK
Day 12
Arrive London
