Arrive in Maun, we will then enjoy a short flight over the Okavango Delta, landing at Shinde Airstrip, the closest to Monachira Camp. We will the transfer the to the camp which is a 5-minute drive. Situated in the Moremi Game Reserve, Monachira Camp is aptly named after the Monachira channel flowing alongside it. Elevated wooden decks provide sweeping views of the floodplains teeming with wildlife. Guests can enjoy thrilling game drives and nature walks, as well as, a variety of water based activities to explore the myriad of islands surrounding the camp offering an immersive experience in the wetlands’ beautiful and diverse landscapes.

Game drives are conducted in the mornings and during the afternoons and evenings at the camp, typically lasting approximately three hours. These excursions traverse the river systems and floodplains surrounding the camp, where the local wildlife is abundant. Participants have a strong likelihood of observing larger predators, as well as herds of elephants, buffalo, and a variety of plains animals. Night drives are available in the early evening, which provide the opportunity to view smaller, more nocturnal species with the aid of spotlights.

Walking Safaris

Walking safaris are generally organized in the mornings under the guidance of armed professionals. These walks are designed to be leisurely, allowing participants to observe the finer details of the bush that are often missed while driving. The feasibility of these walking safaris is subject to weather conditions and the terrain’s accessibility. Additionally, visitors can engage in tranquil explorations of the Okavango waterways via dugout canoe, skillfully poled by an experienced guide in the shallower waters. Day 6 will start by travelling to the beautiful Kiri Camp which lies about 20 kms south west of Chief’s Island, in an area which abounds with wildlife, and is particularly well known for the exciting lion and buffalo exchanges. Wild dog are also found in this area. Shaded by the outstretched branches of imposing Jackalberry trees, Kiri Camp, much like its sister camps, endeavours to camouflage itself within the natural environment while posing minimum human impact on the surrounding sensitive ecosystems.
